an immersive horror experience unlike anything you've seen before...
initial concept and planning
the show takes place in a cabin in the woods, the high school party happening outside of the cabin, and eighteen years earlier in the same location.
initial ideas included using flashlights on actors as lighting instruments, and differentiating the indoor and outdoor spaces with strong amber sidelight in the cabin.
the design challenge
This intense and unusual show was staged in the round, and relied heavily on lighting design to evoke very specific audience moods and responses.
tech week process
-I was in constant conversation with the director, actors, and other designers about how the lighting elements were working or not working to create specific moods
-The "prototyping process" involved editing lighting looks on the spot during rehearsals, and testing different options with the director after each run of the show
the final vision,
brought to life in Production Workshop's Downspace.
Future directions
-Incorporate knowledge of human perception of and behavioral responses to light into design process
