A fantastic new gadget for digital creators
Caroline David and Isaac Sonnenfeldt
the prompt
Use an Arduino microcomputer kit to design an object that might exist in the near future.
User surveys and initial ideation
-We surveyed artistically minded peers at Brown and RISD about what kinds of tools would improve their artistic process
-Came up with device that reads color from its surroundings and communicates that color to an illustration software
prototyping
-Modeled product after a paintbrush to provide intuitive mapping and easy use of the object
-Programmed Arduino to provide two different kinds of real-time feedback on color selection
-3D rapid prototyped using a MakerBot printer. The form was continually adjusted to account for ergonomic and mechanical factors
Finally, all of the electronic parts are wired together and housed in a sleek 3D printed exterior, evocative of a paintbrush covered in your ideal-colored paint.

Welcome to the Color Capture.
FUTURE DIRECTIONS
-Develop prototype into product which can wirelessly transfer data from Arduino to computer
-Iterate product, test different forms and colors
-Perform usability testing and desirability testing
