2019-2020
paint
acrylic on plastic. 2020
nothing terrifies me more than performance art. although my work is deeply personal, once my feelings are on paper, they no longer belong to me in an immediate way.
for this work, I try to capture the discomfort of putting myself in the piece, and to explore what is revealed and what is obscured when working as a “painter.” I was inspired by Carolee Schneemann’s Up To and Including Her Limits. hanging from a sling naked with a paintbrush, Schneemann insists that she is not a performance artist; she is simply a painter using the “body as stroke.”
this is just paint.
